CONCLUSIONS

Summing up the results of our investigation we have come to the following conclusions:

- The Lord of the Rings is a unique phenomenon in world literature. The trilogy combines many genres, such as fairy-tale, adventure story, novel, poem and epic. Thus Tolkien has created a new literary genre, which has acquired the name of fantasy. Being on one hand a children's story, on the other hand it attracts attention of the adult reader, such as literary critics, philologists and just people who enjoy this kind of literature.

- Following the Medieval poetical tradition Tolkien has included a great number of verses into the narrative. He has involved poetry equally with prose. It is used in The Lord of the Rings as an important stylistic device that helps the author reveal the inner world of his characters and expose it in a more compressed and exrpessive way than a prose utterance would. Thus poetry is not of the secondary importance but the other way around, it is an integral part of the narrative.
- The Lord of the Rings has come as the result of Tolkien's experiments. The narrative, it's style and composition as stylistic devices used here are totally determined by the language. Tho whole story is provided for the sake of the tongues created by Tolkien. Mythology, chronology, and the like are to provide a world for the languages rather than reverse.

- Though many monographs were written on The Lord of the Rings, the philological aspect of it still remains unstudied. Thus our investigation was supposed to shed some light upon linguistic aspects of Tolkien's work.
